Job Description

Being tasked to design & fitout the new Blum premises in Perth was an exciting venture. And, as with every project, getting the best end result possible was our priority for this industry leader.

The empty tenancy was large, dull and not the slightest bit interesting. However, the basics were there and waiting to be enhanced. Starting at the bottom, existing concrete floors were ground and polished until an interesting texture was visible. Placement of meeting spaces, displays and work hubs were then built following careful consideration of their interaction with each other. The aim of which was to draw visitors into the showroom space. Then allow them to discover and focus their attention on practicalities.

A Practical Yet Lively Interior

The interior space is a complex weave of hard surfaces, technology and soft furnishings. Combined as they are, they bring warmth and a feeling of ‘home’ to the space. Each hardware programme is crisply displayed against sheer drapes which also help conceal cabling. The boardroom is multi-functional with the ability to host different formats. It will adapt to suit formal meetings, structured training sessions and trade functions.

Timber wallcovering was used extensively within the feature display pod as well as framing the boardroom and office area. A prominent, custom designed decorative screen sits behind the reception desk. This provides privacy to the open plan work space without presenting as a barrier. The screen pattern also influenced glazing film applied to glass partitioning and wallpaper within the work hub. And within this vibrant design & fitout, is one of the cleanest workshops. Tucked into a corner, it’s ready for tradespeople to test and learn various hardware technologies.

Overall, the Blum showroom and office is a very practical working environment. With hardware their focal point, one could expect the space to be boring. But it’s not. The careful interplay of shapes give the interior lots of energy. The basic grey and white colour palette is alive with pops of positive colour and texture. This interior takes hardware to the next level!
