Witch’s Cauldron Case Study
A new chef, a new menu and a desire to spook-up a tired alfresco dining area meant change. It also led management from the Witch’s Cauldron Restaurant to knock on Bellfort’s door for a refresh. A time for positive change was in the air. And an upgraded first impression was in order for their restaurant design.
However, this wasn’t a case of ‘out with the old and in with the new’ by any stretch. Established in 1970, this time-honoured restaurant is still a regular haunt for its original customers. Naturally, it was important not to remove too much of the existing ‘witchy’ charm and frivolity they’d grown fond of.
That said, there were basic requirements to fulfill in order to create an atmospheric alfresco. As an extension to the existing restaurant interior it needed to fit in. Diners needed to be raised above street level to provide a sense of safety and comfort. The adjacent footpath and entrance needed to be re-levelled and restructured. And, the construction phase had to be efficiently managed while allowing the restaurant to function as normal.
Restaurant Design Inspiration
What better to create an alfresco dining area for the Witch’s Cauldron than to draw inspiration from ‘Witchy’ herself? Construction of a raised timber deck provided a solid base and an escape from the busy road. This was coupled with steel platform flooring which transformed into a stylish balustrade. Tired, colonial-style painted columns were given new elegance by being encased in perforated steel tubes. These perforated tubes were backlit with LED’s which emanate a welcoming glow for the hungry hoards.
A new awning with blinds was installed to provide elemental shelter and help define the enhanced dining space. However, the whimsy ‘Witchy’ character was enhanced with the installation of four broomsticks fashioned from construction reid bar. The heart of each broomstick was illuminated with red LED’s, shining mystically against a darkened sky.
A vibrant new restaurant design!
The transformation of the alfresco restaurant also provided the perfect opportunity to capture all ‘Witchy’ branding elements. And it ensured the strong continuation of the venue’s iconic tradition. The completed project was a huge success along with an equally happy client. The regulars are also embracing the update and are eager to see it continue further within.
